Volkswagen and Skoda MQB A0 IN products recalled, 52 units affected
Skoda and Volkswagen India have announced a recall of select models due to an issue related to faulty welding on the track control arm. According to the listing on the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) voluntary recall website, a total of 52 vehicles from the Skoda-Volkswagen India 2.0 portfolio are affected. The models involved include the Skoda Kushaq and Slavia, along with the Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus.
Faulty Weld
The recall has been initiated due to a possible welding irregularity at the component supplier’s end. It is suspected that the weld seam on the track control arm may have been missed during the production process. This welding issue could lead to a potential failure of the component, which, in turn, may cause a sudden loss of vehicle control and stability, without any prior warning to the driver.
The affected units were manufactured between 29th November, 2023 and 20th January, 2024. The recall was officially registered on 28th October, 2024. Out of the total 52 vehicles, 38 are Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus models, while 14 are Skoda Kushaq and Slavia models.
Safety Precaution
Although Skoda-Volkswagen has not yet issued an official public statement, it is expected that both carmakers will be contacting owners of the affected vehicles to arrange for a voluntary inspection and necessary updates. The company aims to rectify the issue at no cost to the customers, which is standard practice in recall cases.
