VW is competing with German rival Mercedes-Benz in the van segment by planning to launch its minivan models, targeting the business class. Diesel variants of the Caravelle and Crafter will be launched by the end of the year. Currently Mercedes sells its Viano in the van segment.

The Caravelle is a 6-9 seater van which has a table inside for meetings. On the options list is internet connectivity, fax machine and a television. The Crafter will target small and medium enterprises with its multi utility. The 3.5 tonne variant can be used as a goods carrier from a 15 seater. The prices of the vans are expected to be high as VW plans to import them as CBUs.
