Toyota Yaris Scores 4-Stars In Latin NCAP [Video]

The conclusion of the Latin NCAP tests gets the Toyota Yaris a 4-star rating for adult and child safety.

With the conclusion of the Latin NCAP crash tests, the Brazil-made Toyota Yaris is awarded 4-stars in its adult and child safety rating. It follows the same norms for the crash tests. The frontal impact is tested at a speed of 64 km/hr while the lateral collision is conducted at 50 km/hr. The Yaris scored a total score of 26.99 out of 34 for adult safety and 38.05 out of 49 for child safety.

The test car was equipped with two airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and ABS as standard. It offered good protection for the adult occupants in sideways impact and decent protection while having a full frontal impact. Moving ahead, the structure of the Yaris has been mentioned as unstable in the test as it did not offer high levels of protection to the front passenger and driver. The limited number of airbags on the model is a reason for its 4-star adult safety rating.

The Brazil spec Toyota Yaris is different in terms of standard safety equipment from the Yaris sold in India. While the test car had dual airbags, the one sold in India comes with 7 standard airbags. The Toyota Yaris was launched in 2018 in India and is priced from Rs. 9.29 lakhs. It faces stiff competition from some of the other cars in the segment like the Maruti Ciaz, Honda City, Volkswagen Vento and Hyundai Verna.
