Toyota is in the midst of hiking its production capacity to 2.1 lakh units per annum in India as the company sees growing demand for the Etios, Corolla Altis, Innova and Fortuner. The company will start a second shift at its Bidadi facility in April, which only manufacturers the Etios. Annual production capacity for the second plant will be raised from 70,000 to 1,20,000 units. The production at the company’s first plant is also being increased to 90000 units from the current 80000 levels to cater to the Corolla Altis, Innova and Fortuner’s increasing popularity. This expansion in manufacturing will be carried out in a phased manner starting from July, 2011 and going upto the second quarter of 2012. Production of 20000 units of the Corolla Altis be shifted to the second plant early next year.
