Tesla Model Y L Launched In China, Offers A 6-Seater Configuration
Tesla introduced the Model Y L, a six-seater long-wheelbase variant of its crossover, in China. The price is 339,000 yuan (Rs 41.17 lakh), teasing it first last month. Tesla aims to regain ground against rapidly growing domestic EV rivals with the SUV.
Styling
The exterior remains similar to the standard Model Y but gets subtle revisions. These revisions include redesigning 19-inch wheels, stretching the roofline, and enlarging the quarter glass. A blacked-out spoiler, “Model YYY” badging, and a new Starlight Gold paint option further distinguish it.
Interior
Inside, the Model Y L includes a 2+2+2 seating layout with second-row captain chairs. These chairs are heated, ventilated, and offer power-folding armrests. The third-row seats also come with heating, enhancing passenger comfort in all rows.
Tesla upgraded the cabin with a 16-inch central touchscreen, slightly larger than before. The 18-speaker audio system provides immersive sound. Pillar-mounted air vents for both rear rows improve cooling and airflow efficiency.
Battery Information
The Model Y L is offered only in long-range all-wheel-drive guise. It uses dual motors producing 193 HP in the front and 269 HP in the rear. A familiar 82kWh battery pack powers the SUV, delivering strong performance.
Battery Performance & Range
The acceleration remains brisk, taking just 4.5 seconds for 0 to 100 km/hr. Despite being 96 kg heavier, it hasn’t compromised efficiency. Tesla claims a CLTC-tested 751 Km range, which is a single kilometre more than the standard version.
Outlook
This improved range is credited to aerodynamic refinements and the redesigned wheels. Tesla believes these enhancements offset the added weight effectively. The Model Y L may help revive Tesla’s competitive edge in the crowded Chinese EV market.
