Tata Motors is set to introduce its first flex-fuel passenger vehicle in India by the end of 2026 or in early 2027, marking the company’s entry into the alternative fuel space.

Speaking about the development, Shailesh Chandra said, “By the end of this year or early next year, we should be ready with our flex fuel also, one product at least.”

Chandra stated that the automaker is already technologically prepared to bring flex-fuel vehicles to the Indian market. At the Auto Expo 2025, Tata Motors had showcased a flex-fuel iteration of the Tata Punch, powered by a 1.2-litre engine capable of operating on ethanol blends exceeding 85 percent.

The company is also targeting robust growth in the current financial year and plans to expand its production capacity in line with rising market demand.

On the EV front, Chandra revealed that customer interest in electric vehicles has surged in recent months, aided by rising fuel prices linked to geopolitical tensions in West Asia.

“Since March, we have seen a sharp jump in EV enquiries and bookings. The increase linked to the West Asia situation and related factors is around 25-30%,” he added.
