Tata Motors To Return To South Africa On August 19, Entering After A 6 Year Absence

Tata Motors will re-enter the South African passenger car market on August 19, ending a six-year absence. The automaker will launch the Tiago, Punch, Curvv, and Harrier as part of an introductory lineup. The brand will manage operations in partnership with the Motus Group, a major player in South Africa’s automotive retail sector.

Tata Motors will build all four models at Tata’s Chakan plant near Pune, with South Africa serving as a key right-hand drive export destination. The Tiago, Punch, and Curvv will be offered with petrol engines, while the Harrier will debut with a diesel powertrain.

New Engine

A petrol-powered Harrier, equipped with a 1.5-litre GDi turbo-petrol engine, is also in the pipeline and is expected to reach South Africa shortly after its Indian launch later this year. It remains to be seen whether this move will help expand into the global markets.
