Tata has unveiled the much anticipated HBX concept at the Auto Expo. The near-production form of the SUV showcases a new design language featuring rugged, well-executed styling with familiar Tata elements like the Harrier-inspired front. The squared out wheel arches, sharp creases dividing the tailgate and the round-shaped taillights are the rest of the highlights. The shown model also featured a roof-mounted carrier.

The HBX will be positioned below the Nexon in Tata’s portfolio. The production-spec version will be based on Tata’s ALFA platform which currently underpins the Altroz. It is likely that the HBX will be powered by the 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine from the Tiago/Tigor. Diesel engine won’t be on offer but all-electric version is on the cards. Gearbox options will be a manual and an AMT.

The HBX will be well equipped if previous experience is anything to go by. Features such as a touch-screen, climate control, dual airbags and even connected tech are expected. The HBX will rival Mahindra’s KUV 100, Maruti Ignis and higher versions of the Renault Kwid. Prices are expected to be in the range of Rs. 4-8 lakhs.
