Suzuki has launched the Hayate commuter motorcycle in India, priced between Rs. 40,162 and Rs. 42.162 (ex-showroom, Pune). Powered by a 112.8cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled motor which produces 8.3 BHP of power at 7500 RPM and 8.8 Nm of torque at 5500 RPM, the Hayate weighs just 112 kgs and means fresh breeze in Japanese. Featuring a 4-speed gearbox, the Suzuki Hayate has been tuned for efficiency and will help the company boost volumes. Suzuki recently revealed its intention to become a top 5 two-wheeler manufacturers in India. The company has also roped in Salman Khan as the brand ambassador.

The Suzuki Hayate is very similar to the Slingshot in many aspects and features a 8-litre fuel tank. The motorcycle uses a downtube frame and telescopic forks. Featuring 17-inch wheels, the Hayate is expected to go head on with the upcoming Honda Dream Yuga and the Bajaj Discover 100. It is available in 5 colours namely red, grey, white, black and grey. The bike also features graphics on the tank and Suzuki is hoping to sell 10,000 units every month. Bookings have been opened and deliveries will start in the coming week.

Suzuki currently has a 2% market share in the Indian market and is working towards increasing it to 8% by 2014. The Hayate is positioned towards the mass market, which resides in rural and semi-urban areas. Last year Suzuki sold 3.6 lakh units in the Indian market and has aimed to sell 4.5 lakh units in the current fiscal. Production at the Gurgaon facility has been hiked to 5.5 lakh units. Suzuki is also coming up with a new facility in Rohtak in the near future, which can produce 4 lakh units per annum.
