Skoda recalls 221 Kodiaq SUVs in India over seat safety defect

Skoda Kodiaq has been recalled in India due to a potential defect in the structure of the front seat frame that could affect passenger safety during a crash. The recall impacts a total of 221 units manufactured between March 10 and December 8, 2025.

According to details disclosed on the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers website, the issue relates to the inner frame edge of the front seats. In certain situations, this component may interfere with the proper deployment or effectiveness of the side airbags. As a result, the level of protection offered to occupants during a side-impact collision could be reduced, potentially increasing the risk of injury.

Skoda Auto India has acknowledged the issue and is expected to reach out to affected customers to carry out necessary inspections and corrective measures. Typically, such recalls are addressed free of cost, although the company has not yet detailed the exact remedy process publicly.

The second-generation Kodiaq was introduced in India in April 2024 and continues to be positioned as the brand’s flagship SUV. It is powered by a 2.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine paired with a dual-clutch automatic transmission, with all-wheel drive offered as standard across the range.

The model is available in multiple configurations, including the Sportline and Selection L&K variants, along with a more recently introduced Lounge trim that offers a two-row seating layout. Pricing for the Kodiaq currently ranges between Rs. 39.99 lakhs and Rs. 45.95 lakhs (ex-showroom).

In the Indian market, the Kodiaq competes with premium SUVs such as the Volkswagen Tayron, among others in the segment.
