The EQB is set to become the entry-level EV of Mercedes-Benz in India, launch confirmed for this year

Mercedes Benz is all set to launch its entry-level electric 7-seater SUV, EQB, this year itself. It will follow the launch of the upcoming flagship EV, EQS. Sitting below the currently-on-sale, EQC, the upcoming EQB is expected to command a very lucrative price tag.

It won’t be surprising even if Mercedes Benz prices the EQB right in the ballpark of the BMW i4 and Kia EV6 GT Line which have recently set the Indian luxury EV space on fire. Built based on the international-spec GLB SUV, the EQB has some nice touches.

The signature EQ covered glossy grille and the spoke-like alloy wheels send the message that it’s, indeed, an EV. It comes in 2 trims – 300 4Matic and 350 4Matic. Both the variants get 2 motors each connected to an axle for a 4-wheel drive system.

The 300 4Matic’s dual motor output is 225 HP and 390 Nm while the 350 4Matic’s dual motor output is 288 HP and 520 Nm. The 0-100 km/hr times are 8 seconds and 6.2 seconds respectively and the top speed is limited to 160 km/hr for both the variants.

The trims get a 66.5 kWh battery pack with a claimed range of up to 340 Km. On the inside, 2 10.25-inch displays merge to form a widescreen intuitive cockpit. The driver is supported by the Mirror package and the Parking package with reversing camera.

The third row seats can comfortably accommodate people up to 1.65 metres tall. Safety features include retractable head restraints, seat belts with belt tensioners and force limiters on all seats, and a side window airbag that also covers passengers in the third row as well.
