Mercedes-AMG G63 Recall Issued To Rectify Child Safety Lock Gremlin
A recall has been issued for 51 units of the Mercedes-AMG G63 sold in India to rectify a child safety lock problem.
The units with the issue were manufactured between 9th July 2018 and 10th July 2019, says Mercedes-AMG apart from issuing a statement explaining what went wrong.
According to the manufacturer, the lock symbol embossed on the operating lever for the child safety lock in the G63 may show the locking status incorrectly.
Thus, it might be possible to open the rear doors from the inside despite the symbol showing that the door is locked, which could result in the rear seat occupants getting injured or being exposed to potential danger.
We expect all the units with the issue to be soon called in by the manufacturer to fix the gremlin, which will be done free of cost. No reports of injuries caused due to the problem have surfaced as of now.
This is not the first Mercedes-AMG G63 recall of the year, since back in March, the luxury SUV was recalled to fix an issue with the wiring harness of the front doors, which, if left unfixed, could have led to the safety of front passengers getting compromised.
Twelve cars manufactured between 9th July and 2nd October in 2018 were called in by the carmaker to fix the issue. Currently, the retail cost of the Mercedes-AMG G63 begins at Rs. 2.28 crores (ex-showroom).
