Maruti Suzuki will shut the sales of the 800 from 1st April, 2010 in 13 cities due to the model not complying with BS IV norms. Maruti 800 made its debut in 1982 and has been the company’s bread, butter and cheese model till the Alto took over some years back. The cities where BSIV norms will set in from April 2010 are Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune, Kanpur, Ahmedabad, Surat and Agra. Other cities will come under BS III norms, where the 800 will continue to be sold. However in 2015 BS IV norms would set in across the country leading to good bye to the 800 forever.
