Maruti Suzuki Completes Assembly Of First Batch Of 3-Door Jimny
Maruti Suzuki has completed the assembly of the first batch of Jimny 3-door compact off-roader at its Gurugram facility.
So far, 50 cars have been assembled, on a line similar to the one used for the Gypsy, and all of them were imported from Japan as CKD units.
The automaker had started the trial assembly of the Jimny as early as September in India (read article here) as it plans to soon export the car to several markets from here.
Indians might not be able to get their hands on a 3-door Jimny, but a 5-door version is being developed that will go on sale here. Further, it will be manufactured only in India, using locally sourced parts, at the firm’s Manesar plant.
Set to get launched in India by late next year or during early 2022, the 5-door Jimny, like the 3-door variant, will be powered by a K15B 1.5-litre petrol motor making 105 HP.
It will come mated either with a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed auto and will be equipped with all-wheel-drive as standard.
When it gets launched in the market, it will likely not be alone, for Mahindra is also working on a 5-door version of the latest-generation Thar.
