Maruti has moved production of the Dzire from Manesar to SMG facility in Ahmedabad.

Maruti Suzuki has relocated the production of Dzire compact sedan from Manesar to the Suzuki Motor Gujarat (SMG) plant in Ahmedabad.

According to people in the know, this has been done to free up space for new SUV models that will be made at the country’s top carmaker’s Manesar facility.

Cars such as the Alto, Ertiga, Wagon R, among others, are being manufactured at Manesar which is currently operating at optimal capacity.

Regarding shifting Maruti Dzire production to Gujarat, a company spokesperson has stated that “these efforts and adjustments help fulfill customer demand.”

The Dzire is the best selling sedan in India

The production line of the Dzire was shifted to SMG, which is a 100 percent subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation, in June and on an average, Suzuki produces over 1000 units of the Dzire every day.

In all, the total annual production capacity that Maruti Suzuki has is 22.5 lakh units, out of which 7.5 lakh units is contributed by SMG which has 3 units (A,B and C).

As stated above, the carmaker plans to introduce multiple SUV models in India over the next 3 years to make up for the ground lost to the Koreans, which is the reason why the Maruti Dzire production had to be moved.

New SUVs which can be expected from Maruti include second-generation Vitara Brezza (2022), a compact/midsize SUV (Hyundai Creta rival) in the same year and the 5-door Jimny in either 2022 or 2023.
