Mahindra has resumed the bookings of its flagship XUV500 AWD. The XUV500 with the All-Wheel Drive option is the top end variant, whose bookings were stopped by the auto maker to clear the backlog of orders. In order to meet the demand, Mahindra had to expand their production capacity. During the initial booking days, the company managed to bag 8000 bookings and followed it up by 25,000 bookings the second time. The company had some supply constraints at its production plant which has been now cleared and thus Mahindra has started accepting the bookings of its top of the line AWD model. The booking amount for the model is Rs. 40,000/- whereas, the waiting period is expected to be around two months.

The Mahindra XUV500 AWD version comes with an all wheel drive technology developed by Borg Warner that ensures control over the vehicle on different terrains like slippery surfaces, heavy rain, snow or ice. There is a seamless transition from 2WD to AWD without any driver intervention. The AWD is further fortified with NexTrac, that is the next generation, electronically controlled, on-demand Interactive Torque Management system. When required, it assumes control of the clutch and other vehicle systems. The technology automatically controls vehicle systems like Engine Management System, Steering Angle Sensor and Anti-lock Braking System, and automatically redistributes torque between front and rear wheels.

Mahindra XUV500 is counted among the most successful models in the Indian auto industry. Mahindra has delivered more than 35m000 units within first year of its launch. The major USP of the vehicle is its performance oriented engine, which has brilliant output generating a decent fuel economy of 15.1 km/l (ARAI certified). The car features a 2.2-litre mHawk turbo diesel engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission, which churns out a peak power output of 140 BHP at 3750 RPM with a torque output of 330 Nm at as low as 1600-2800 RPM. Re-opening the bookings of the AWD model around this festive season seems a good move from the auto maker, which will surely end up with good results.
