SsangYong Tivoli based crossover codenamed Mahindra S201 launch in 2018, will rival the Hyundai Creta.

Mahindra is developing an SUV based on the SsangYong Tivoli is a known fact. However, Mahindra has codenamed this SUV as S201 and confirmed that this SUV will be a direct rival to the Hyundai Creta. The S201 launch will happen next year.

The Mahindra S201 is based on the SsangYong Tivoli’s X100 platform and will be a 5-seater SUV. The S201 is also expected to offer all the bells and whistles that a sub Rs. 15 lakh SUV is supposed to offer for instance dual-zone air-conditioning, seven airbags, ESP, ABS, leather interiors, higher profile tyres, more ground clearance, etc.

The Mahindra S201 is expected to be powered by a 1.5-litre diesel engine while the SsangYong Tivoli internationally is powered by 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engines. Mahindra says, an electric version of the S201 is also in the works, but its India launch is still in the speculation stages. This will be the first product from the Mahindra-SsangYong partnership.
