New Land Rover Freelander To Relaunch As A Hybrid, Expected Launch In 2026
Land Rover will launch the next generation Freelander as a Hybrid in 2026. This will make it the brand’s first offering with electric assistance. The british marquee is planning to launch the Freelander with a partnership with China’s Chery.
Land Rover and Chery have been in a joint venture since 2012. The Chinese automaker has been responsible for producing the Discovery Sport, Evoque, Jaguar E-Pace, as well as the long wheelbase versions of the XF and XE in the Chinese market.
New Platform
The Land Rover Freelander will be separate from the Defender, Range Rover, Discovery and Jaguar’s offerings. It will be based on Chery’s T1X platform. Land Rover also revealed the new Freelander logo at an investor presentation. The new Freelander’s platform is used by the Chinese firm’s Jaecoo and Omoda brands as well.
The platform can support vehicles from the size of a compact SUV to a full size SUV.
Outlook
The Freelander will be a Plug-In Hybrid and sport an aggressive design. We expect the new Freelander to have a coupe SUV profile. Land Rover has assured that the new Freelander will have the spirit of the old Freelander and an effort to make it up to date.
