Kawasaki Z900RS Performance
What do you think? Isn’t the Z900 RS very optimistically or rather insanely priced?

The Kawasaki Z900 RS was launched in India in February and since then has registered sales of just 1 unit. The retro motorcycle is priced at Rs. 15.30 lakhs (ex-showroom) and comes in a choice of two colours – Candytone Brown and Candytone Orange. The vehicle is sold as a CBU in India.

The Z900 RS takes inspiration from the iconic Z1 900 of the 1970s and blends its character with modern technology to form a beautiful retro-modern motorcycle. Some of the design highlights include a teardrop tank, stainless steel single-piece megaphone exhaust, well-padded single-piece seat, round LED headlight, oval LED tail lamp and machined spoked rims. The instrument console too is a throwback to the 1970s with chrome-ringed classic analogue dials with a modern touch provided by the LCD screen positioned in between. Powering the Z900 RS is a 948cc in-line four engine which pumps out 111 PS of power and 98.5 Nm of torque. It comes mated to a 6-speed transmission.

So why isn’t the Z900 RS selling as much? Well, the answer is pretty simple, the cost of the motorcycle. For perspective, the standard Z900 without accessories costs almost Rs. 7.62 lakhs cheaper while the Z900 with accessories is again approximately Rs. 6.30 lakhs cheaper than the Z900 RS. A premium of Rs. 6.30 lakhs just because the motorcycle takes a retro design theme is just too much. In fact, the Z900 is also brought to India via the CBU route. Clearly then, the Z900 RS is an over-priced offering from Team Green.

Despite being a CBU, the Z900 is a more value for money product
