June 2015 Premium Motorcycle Sales Figures & Analysis
Premium motorcycle sales see a surge in demand last month, in spite of the monsoon season coming. Not much of a drastic change in numbers as the premium players continue to remain more or less consistent.
Not much to talk about in premium motorcycle sales as they continue to sell in similar numbers last month when compared to May 2015. Royal Enfield continues to lead the pack and has seen an increase in numbers with the Classic 350 being the top seller for the British brand. The Classic twins account for a majority of sales for the company, in fact more than half of total sales come from the Classic 350 alone. Meanwhile, the Continental GT continues to trail the Harley-Davidson Street 750, one being the most expensive Royal Enfield while the other is the cheapest bike from the Milwaukee based motorcycle maker.
Apart from the Street 750, Harley-Davidson continues to ride high on the Iron 883, its third most affordable bike in India while the Street Bob and Fat Boy continue to sell in decent numbers. While Harley is at number three, number two is occupied by Bajaj Auto’s KTM, the Austrian brand having a good run with just four models on offer. Naturally the Duke and RC 200 account for a majority of sales, the arrival of the full faired 200cc bike only boosting KTM’s numbers even further. In spite of the arrival of the Pulsar RS 200, KTM’s numbers continue to grow.
Both Triumph at fourth position and Kawasaki at fifth position continue to grow in sales and competition between both these brands is the one to watch out for as both offer bikes in a slew of categories. Triumph is selling each model it has on offer with the Bonneville being the top seller. The Triumph Street Triple continues to sell in decent numbers in spite of having lower power than its rivals, the Kawasaki Z800 managing almost double the units of the British street-naked. The Z250’s sales remain dismal and among the Japanese brigade, Suzuki manages to beat both Honda and Yamaha although these companies are performing quite poorly in the premium segment.
