Jeep Compass petrol variants discontinued temporarily

Jeep India has discontinued the Compass petrol variants for a short while. The American carmaker has stopped taking bookings for the same. Only diesel engine variants are on sale currently.

Both the manual and automatic variants of the petrol model have been temporarily shelved, possibly in order for Jeep to upgrade the engine to comply with BS6 Phase 2 norms.

The Jeep Compass petrol was powered by a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 156 BHP and 250 Nm of torque. It was available with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed DCT (Dual-Clutch Transmission).

For the time being, it seems that the Compass will solely be available with the 2.0-litre diesel engine. This diesel powertrain generates 168 BHP and 350 Nm of torque. Customers can choose between a 6-speed manual transmission or a 9-speed automatic transmission, with the latter offering 4WD option.

While the discontinuation of the petrol variants may come as a disappointment to some potential buyers, it is worth noting that this move could be a temporary measure.

The Compass has been a key player in the brand’s lineup. As Jeep works on the necessary upgrades, it is expected that the petrol variants of the Compass will make a comeback in due course, equipped with an engine that meets the stringent BS6 Phase 2 emission standards.
