Hyundai Motor Co is considering introducing its hot selling i10, the small hatchback produced in India, to the US market to meet rising demand for small cars amid higher oil prices.

“We are considering launching the i10 (in the United States) as more customers are looking for smaller cars. But we have not made a final decision yet as we are still studying logistics costs and various technical issues,” said a Hyundai official.

Hyundai plans to export the i30, a larger hatchback made in South Korea, to the world’s biggest auto market next year. Higher oil prices and a slowdown in the US economy have prompted customers to search for smaller vehicles. Selling the i10 in the US market wont be easy and will require Hyundai to fine tune the car for better performance.
