Husqvarna E-Pilen To Come Powered By 15 kW Powertrain
Husqvarna E-Pilen, will come with a 15 kW (20.1 HP) electric powertrain, Chief Executive Officer of Pierer Mobility AG, Stefan Pierer has revealed.
It is well known that KTM and Bajaj have jointly developed 4 kW (5.4 HP) and 8/10 kW (10.7/13.4 HP) low voltage (48 V) electric motors to use on their EVs.
The Bajaj Chetak uses the lower power output of the two and the upcoming Husqvarna electric scooter will be a Chetak under different clothing.
However, what we are more interested in is the E-Pilen that is currently under development. While it was earlier thought that the Husqvarna E-Pilen powertrain would be a 10 kW one, Stefan has stated otherwise.
He revealed that it will have a 48 V, 15 kW “powerpack”. This low voltage setup will come with a comparatively bigger battery and more range.
Stefan says a high voltage concept was considered, but was dropped (in favour of the low voltage option) once all the disadvantages, safety issues relating to logistics, warehousing, dealerships, among others, became clear.
KTM uses the term “powerpack” for its swappable battery packs currently used on the Freeride E-XC dirtbike. We could thus speculate that the electric Husqvarna motorcycle could also use the same or a similar system.
To be built by Bajaj at Chakan plant, the E-Pilen will make its world debut in 2022. It will look like the current quarter-litre Husqies, but will have a very bare-bones look to it, sporting USD front forks, side-mounted rear monoshock and 4-spoke alloy wheels.
