Honda CRF250L Dual Sport Is India Bound

The 2-wheeler division of Honda Motor Company has announced that it will be launching its new CRF250L off-road motorcycle in the global market this year. The company gave out a press release where it mentioned that the Honda CRF250L Dual Sport on-road/off-road model will be first debuting in the Japanese market on 14th May, 2012 with sales starting to commence on the same day. It will debut in the market of Canada by late July. However, Honda has not mentioned anything about the bike coming to the Indian market but sources inform us that a 2013 launch is likely.

The Honda CRF250L Dual Sport gets a cool tagline of ‘New On & Off Gear, your right buddy on the road’ to make ‘On’ (daily life) more convenient and ‘Off’ (weekends) more enjoyable.” The Honda CRF 250L Dual Sport is powered by the same 249.6cc, liquid cooled, single cylinder unit that does duty on the Honda CBR250R. However, the power and torque figures have been altered to keep the off-roading requirements in mind. The 250cc unit in the Honda CRF250L Dual Sport produces 23 PS of peak power at 8500 RPM and 22 NM of peak torque at 7000 RPM.

Fuel delivery to the Honda CRF 250L Dual Sport is via Honda’s Programmed Fuel Injection System (PGM-FI). The engine is mated to a 6 speed constant mesh gearbox. The Honda CRF 250L Dual Sport rides on 3.00- 21 51P tires at the front and 120/80- 18M/C 62P at the rear. At the front, the Honda CRF 250L Dual Sport gets inverted type telescopic shocks while at the rear it receives Swing-arm pro-Link type suspension. Honda has also claimed the CRF 250L Dual Sport has a fuel efficiency figure of 44.3 km/l (constant speed of 60 km/h on a level road). This bike has the potential to give some serious competition to the Hero MotoCorp Impulse which is powered by a lower powered engine. But expect the CRF250L to be priced not less than Rs. 1.3 lakhs.
