The electric scooter segment in India is getting stronger with each passing day. It already has a number of players including Ather, Bajaj Chetak and TVS iQube. The big players are eyeing this segment as their first EV product.

Same is the case with Hero MotoCorp. The Indian bike maker is working on a new electric scooter which will be one of the first EVs from the automaker. It will be based on the Hero Maestro Edge and is likely to be called Hero eMaestro.

The image of the Hero electric scooter has been revealed and it looks more or less the same as the Hero Maestro Edge. Hero eMaestro concept comes with red wheels and all-digital display.

The eMaestro carries a lithium ion battery with a permanent magnet motor. It is being developed in the R&D hub, Centre of Innovation and Technology (CIT), Jaipur.

Electric scooters are already seeing quite a lot of demand in the Indian market as well as in the international markets. Hero MotoCorp is investing Rs. 10,000 crores to develop new products including EVs.

The Hero eMaestro is expected to be offered with a sub Rs. 1 lakh pricing in India when launched in production guise. The electric scooter’s timeline of introduction isn’t clear yet.
