Euro NCAP Stripdown Audit Reveals Suspicious Parts

Euro NCAP and Thatcham Research have revealed stripdown audit for some suspicious parts while conducting tests.

Mass-produced cars which are sold in the European market have to surpass the safety test conducted by the Euro NCAP. UK-based safety company named Thatcham Research and Euro NCAP have revealed that they found some suspicious parts marked as “for crash test only” and “for Euro NCAP only” on few cars while conducting stripdown audits. Some parts with such marks include airbag units and ISOFIX points.

The researchers have stripped down the car to inspect individual parts in safety tests. They have witnessed some parts that had suspicious labelling. These parts had come from the third party suppliers in most of the cases.

The carmakers were questioned for this action, some of the carmakers said these parts are taken from production units with tight deadlines and labelling “for crash test only” helped them in preventing delays. The investigators stated that they have visited car and parts factories to verify.

Euro NCAP has re-tested some vehicles which were suspicious. From the last two years, Euro NCAP has not sighted “for crash test only” marked parts. Now the carmakers are taking care in their internal process and they know that the safety authorities are being precise while conducting tests.
