Delhi deploys high-tech scanners at petrol pumps to detect vehicles without valid PUC

Delhi motorists will now face stricter checks on their vehicle’s Pollution Under Control (PUC) certification, as new scanning devices have been deployed at petrol pumps across the capital. These advanced systems, equipped with cameras, are designed to detect vehicles that do not have a valid PUC certificate.

The technology aims to streamline enforcement efforts by scanning each vehicle entering the petrol pump. If a vehicle lacks a valid PUC certificate, the system will generate an audio alert. Additionally, key details, including the vehicle’s age and PUC status, will be logged into a central database. This initiative aligns with a recent government directive that prohibits vehicles older than 15 years from refueling at petrol stations starting April 1.

A PUC certificate serves as a crucial document for vehicle owners, ensuring compliance with prescribed emission norms. It verifies that a vehicle meets pollution control standards, thereby minimizing its environmental impact. In India, obtaining this certificate is a mandatory legal requirement for all motor vehicles.

To secure a PUC certificate, vehicle owners must visit an authorized Pollution Testing Centre, where their vehicle’s emissions are assessed. The process involves measuring pollutant levels in the exhaust, ensuring they fall within permissible limits set by regulatory authorities.
