BMW will bring the latest version of the 5 Series to India this year in order to drive volumes and overtake Mercedes and Audi in the competitive luxury car segment. The refreshed 5 Series will be launched globally later this month but the price is yet to be decided for the Indian market. The new 5-Series, codenamed F10, is based on the same platform as the 5-Series GT and the latest 7-Series. The German firm is also increasing production capacity from the current 3,000 units as it eyes sales of over 4,000 units in 2010.

The 2011 5-Series boasts of equipment such as Head-up Display, Night Vision with pedestrian recognition, Speed Limit Info, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Change Warning, two rear entertainment packages and a Surround View system that uses cameras in the rear view mirrors and the front wheel arches in conjunction with the Park Distance Control system and the optional Reversing Assist camera to provide a 360 degree view on the iDrive display to assist in parking.
