Bike Taxis Banned In Delhi – Rapido, Uber, Ola

Bike taxi ban in the national capital as in violation of the Motor Vehicles Act

Bike taxi ban has been imposed in Delhi by the Delhi Transport Department. App-based aggregators like Ola, Uber and Rapido asked to stop plying bike taxi services in the national capital.

These service providers are running bike taxis in the state without commercial permits and this violates the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. Violation of this ban will result in penal action according to a notice issued by the Delhi Transport Department.

These app-based aggregators are running bike taxis with private registration used to carry passengers without a valid commercial license.

First offence penalty is Rs. 5000/-, second or more offences will lead to penalties of up to Rs. 10,000/- and the vehicles can be impounded along with the possibility of imprisonment. In addition to these penalties the rider will be suspended for minimum 3 years.

Currently, the transport department doesn’t give commercial license to 2-wheelers as there is lack of regulations and guidelines. Kailash Gahlot, the Transport Minister of Delhi has said that the aggregator policy for 2-wheelers, 3-wheelers and 4-wheelers is in its final stage. It will be rolled out soon that will grant license under the new scheme.
