One of the interesting features of the new Ford Kuga is the hands-free automatic tailgate (pictured above). The hands-free automatic tailgate is one of the innovative features in which the tailgate/rear hatch can be opened or closed simply by sweeping a foot under the rear bumper. Other features include advanced voice control, device integration and connectivity interface SYNC. It also includes Emergency Assistance, which upon detecting airbag deployment or activation of the emergency fuel shut-off within the car. Simultaneously, it uses the on-board GPS navigator and blue-tooth integrated phone to call the local emergency response.

Additionally, the Kuga also gets the parallel parking aid Active Park Assist, and sensor-based Blind Spot Information System. The Kuga is powered by a 2.0 litre TDCi diesel engine which produces 140 PS and 163 PS of power options. This 2.0 litre engine is mated to the Ford Powershift automatic gearbox as an option. The Kuga also gets a 1.6 litre EcoBoost petrol engine which is already available in the current Focus and C-Max. The Kuga is also one of the products of the latest global One Ford Strategy. Could the Kuga be one of the eight products Ford plans to launch by 2015? It could be priced around Rs. 15 lakhs, competing with the Mahindra XUV500.
