Premier Rio Beige Interiors

We recently reported on Premier planning to opt for a BS4 compliant engine for the Rio, which could be launched in the next couple of months. However the company can continue to sell non BS4 compliant cars in city’s where the new norm is yet to implemented. Thus, to keep things cheerful, the Premier Rio gets beige interiors. Beige is a known technique to make things looks bigger than they actually are and Premier thinks they too can pull it off with the beige seats and door panels. The gear knob and dashboard have been upgraded slightly, to look upmarket.

The beige interior Premier Rio however continues to use the Peugeot 1.5 liter TUD5 engine. A Multijet engine might soon find its way in the Rio, giving it a much needed boost in terms of power and refinement. Zotye (from whom the Rio is sourced) sells two variants of the Rio in China and the company could adapt the same strategy. Mahindra also sells similar variants of two cars, one with a BS3 engine and the other with BS4 engine. Now with Mahindra planning to foray into the segment with its mini-Xylo, the Rio has its first real competition.
