Vahan website wasn’t registering 8-seater MPV as private vehicle

8 Seater registration halted due to website issue

Recently there was news about Parivahan website stopping 8 seater vehicle registration as private vehicles. The website didn’t allow registering 8 seater MPVs including Toyota Innova Crysta and HyCross in several states.

Reports said that this issue has been there since 22nd May, 2023. Instead, there was a new category created called ‘Omnibus’ for 8 seater vehicles. Now according to the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Omnibus category falls under the ‘Transport’ category. These changes in the website created a lot of confusion amongst private buyers.

Now, Toyota Kirloskar Motor spokesperson has confirmed to MotorBeam that the issue has been resolved. Here is the statement from the Japanese carmaker – “There was an issue with the registration of 8-seater vehicles in few states. We understand this was due to certain changes in the VAHAN portal. Subsequent system upgrades have been made at the backend and we understand that the matter has been resolved allowing new vehicle registration to continue seamlessly in line with the guidelines. We immensely thank the authorities and the concerned officers for their swift action and resolution.”

Finally, customers can now register their 8 seater MPVs as private cars in the states where this issue popped up.
