BMW plans to launch a new 3-cylinder engine which will do duty in its front wheel drive cars. The new BMW EfficientDynamics Engine family will be half of the current generatation 3.0 liter straight six engines and will features valvetronic variable valve timing, high pressure fuel injection with a single, double sided turbocharger. With a displacement of 1.5 liter, the engine will be mounted transversely which means it will be used in the 1-series and the upcoming Mini. The other engines shown in the above video will also be launched in 2012 and will make it to the i3.
