Royal Enfield Himalayan Dakar Version Showcased

Royal Enfield Himalayan gets Dakar ready at 2018 Big Motor Show, Thailand.

Adventure category motorcycles are gaining much popularity in the present market. Royal Enfield adventure bike Himalayan was launched in early 2016. Since the launch, the bike had a bad market reputation for poor quality. After the mandatory BSIV regulation for two-wheelers in 2017, the company launched BSIV compliant model which gained back some popularity with better reliability. At the 2018 Big Motor Sale in Bangkok, Royal Enfield showcased the Himalayan in a Dakar inspired avatar.

The standard headlight was replaced with vertically stacked twin projectors. This change helped to accommodate a taller windscreen. The engine bay gets surrounded with a crash guard. Auxiliary LED lights are mounted on the crash guards. There is a major change in the seating section, this bike is now a single seater with high set handlebars. Higher exhaust position along with knobby tyres are some other changes to this Dakar version. The colours from Thai’s national flag was chosen as the livery for this motorcycle.

Other components like the suspension, brakes, fuel tank, front mudguard and bash plate was carried from the standard Himalayan. The details about the engine were not spoken about. But we expect it to be the same long stroke 411cc engine from the standard Himalayan with some boring and honing done to it.
