Honda Jazz RS Could Be Showcased At Auto Expo In February

The India spec Honda Jazz RS is likely to get exterior and interior upgrades similar to the Mobilio RS with no changes in power output.

Honda introduced the new generation Jazz in India last year and the model received a good response thanks to the abundance of space and the much-needed diesel engine being plonked under the hood. For those who thought the new Jazz was a little less exciting visually due to its MPV-like dimensions, the Indian automaker is now planning to introduce a sporty and tricked out Jazz RS that is likely to be showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo.

Upgraded with several sporty bits, the new Honda Jazz RS is already on sale in Indonesia and gets a host of accessories like the gloss black front grille with chrome plating and an RS badge; projector headlamps with automatic levelling, LED DRLs, chrome door handles, rear spoiler with LED stop lamp, power folding ORVMs and new 16-inch alloy wheels. The India spec model could continue with 15-inch rubber wrapped in new alloy wheels. Inside the cabin, the performance model comes with keyless entry, cruise control, start-stop button, leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear lever.

It is possible that the India spec Honda Jazz RS could get most of these features (already offered on the City sedan) while the touchscreen infotainment system could be upgraded to a 7-inch unit from the outgoing 6.2-inch screen seen on the range-topping VX trim. In terms of mechanicals, the Jazz RS will continue to draw power from the same engines including a 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol good for 90 PS and 110 Nm of torque whereas the 1.5-litre diesel makes 100 PS and 200 Nm of torque.

Transmission options include a 5-speed manual on the petrol engine while the diesel gets a 6-speed manual unit. With the upgrades, Honda will be pitching the Jazz RS against the Volkswagen Polo GT and vaguely the Abarth Punto as well. That said, the RS trim mostly brings cosmetic improvements to the model without deterring too much from the practicality quotient. Expect the Jazz RS to command a substantial upgrade in the asking price over the standard version.
