Bajaj Temporarily Halts 200 NS Production To Produce AS 200
Bajaj’s Chakan facility is facing capacity constraints and in a bid to meet the demand for the RS 200 and AS 200, the automaker has hence stopped production of the 200 NS.
Bajaj Auto has been extremely busy amidst the arrival of the new age Pulsar models this year that ranged from the fully faired Race Sport (RS) 200 to the Adventure Sport (AS) 200. The company rapidly expanded its Pulsar 200 range in the past months that are pretty much in demand as well and this has led to the original new generation Pulsar 200 Naked Sport (NS) going out of production. Having contacted Bajaj dealers across the country, the outlets confirmed that the 200 NS is currently not on sale with production stopped over two months ago.
We spoke to Bajaj on the matter and the automaker assured us that the 200 NS is very much on sale but is temporarily out of production due to capacity constraints. Bajaj manufactures its entire Pulsar 200 lineup at the Chakan facility and the company has been facing a capacity crunch due to the RS 200 that went on sale in March this year (hence only two colours are available). Given the novelty value and improved performance on the AS 200, the sports tourer is doing better numbers than the 200 NS and naturally so, the bike maker is trying to match up to the demand by making more space for producing the same.
That said, it still isn’t clear as to when the 200 NS be back in production as the bike has been pretty much out of stock with dealers for almost two months now. Both the Pulsar 200 NS and AS 200 share the same underpinnings being built on a perimeter frame while power comes from a 199.5cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine tuned to produce 23.5 PS and 18.3 Nm of torque, paired to a 6-speed gearbox. The AS 200 though gets a much more refined unit over the naked offering with marginally reduced vibrations. Unlike its predecessor, the 200 NS could not set the sales charts on fire and it only emerges as necessary for the automaker to stop production till it is able to increase manufacturing capacity.
