The State of Tamil Nadu announced the New Mobile and Auto Component Policy that was welcomed by the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association (ACMA) giving boost to the automotive industry and investment in the state. The policy will lead to the setup of India’s first auto city to cater to the needs of domestic and global automotive manufacturers.

The Indian automotive industry is passing through one of the most challenging phases and the new policy will further improve the confidence of the automotive industry in the southern state. The government has allotted 1000 hectares for both domestic and global automotive/component design, prototyping and manufacturing units. It will house an Automotive Industrial Development Centre (AIDC) and the Automotive Suppliers Park (ASP) for improved logistics. The Auto city will also attract new investments into the state as well as create vacancies for the much needed talent pool to meet the manpower requirement in the industry.

The state will also provide infrastructure development which includes rail-port connectivity to facilitate faster movement of the consignments, effluent treatment plants, drainage, solid waste management, power, gas and water among other resources to the proposed auto city. The proposed project will be one-of-its-kind in the country and will surely put the country on a global scale pulling in investments from the new sources.
