Honda will launch the new fourth generation CR-V in India in the coming week. The company has still not got a diesel engine, blaming fuel quality for its inability to get the 1.6-litre i-DTEC engine from the European CR-V. The latest generation CR-V is a fantastic vehicle but with only petrol power underneath its hood, the demand for this soft-roader will remain limited. In order to price the CR-V aggressively, Honda has gone the CKD route. Local assembly will help the Japanese carmaker to evade the high duties and tackle the rising yen.
Honda offers the new CR-V in 4 variants, with only the entry level model getting a manual gearbox. Other features include 5-inch multi-information display, eco assist system, ECO mode, 17-inch alloy wheels, HID headlamps, headlight washers, electric sunroof, auto retracting mirrors, cruise control, paddle shifters, real time 4-wheel drive, audio video navigation (AVN), reversing camera, steering mounted audio and telephone controls, 8-way adjustable driver seat, dual zone climate control, ABS, EBD, Hill Start Assist, etc.
Two accessory kits are offered as after market dealer fitments – Inspire and Elegance. With the Inspire package, the Honda CR-V gets door visor with chrome, tail gate spoiler and running board. The Elegance package offers a honeycomb front grille, door lower, tail gate and fog light garnish. Both packages have side step garnish and exhaust finisher in common.
The new Honda CR-V will be offered with two engines. The 2.0-litre petrol will channel power to the front wheels, churning out 156 PS of power and 190 Nm of torque. The 2.4-litre petrol will produce 190 PS and 226 Nm, mated to a 5-speed automatic gearbox only. The vehicle will be offered in 5 colours namely red, silver, white, grey and brown.
